Red Celtic Dragons, knotted into a bar

It sounds silly, I know, but what I wanted -- just once, or twice, or a few dozen times -- was to see events through the eyes of the Watchers.

Who are these people?  Why do they Watch?  What things have they seen, or done, or wondered, or wanted to know?  What do they wish to the Deity of their choice they'd never heard or known?  And what would they give their eyeteeth to find out... even if they never told another soul?

So I put out a challenge:  Write a story from the Watcher's point of view.  Anything.  Humor, angst, PWP's, het, slash, sex, violence, love, whatever.  Anything.  Everything.  So G-rated Disney would love it, or as twisted as the plot demands.  (Trust me, some of them got twisted.)  Anything.

To my surprise, I got some answers.  I'm still hoping for more.  Who am I kidding, I'm still working on my own.  But many, many thanks to those who wrote, or are writing, or gave permission to link to stories that were already out there.  If I missed you, my profound apologies!  Drop me a line, let me know, and I'll gleefully put you on the list, apologizing as I go.  If you just want one added?  Don't worry what time of year it is -- drop me a line and I'll be pleased to archive it here or link to it wherever it may be.  Write it, by all means!

And if writing isn't your thing, then go read them.  Have fun.  And, please, gift the starving authors with feedback.  It's the only pay we get for doing this, after all.

The Stories:
(as of 9/15/99)

Nolens Volens by Sleeps With Coyotes

Rated R to NC-17 for sex, violence, gore, torture, etc.  Be thou warned:  this one is Caspianfic, Serialkillernastiness, and not for the faint of heart.  It's also appallingly well done, as the lady's stuff always is!  But don't say you weren't warned....

Counterpoint by Alyss

Rated PG-13 for no more violence than you'd find in any episode.  "Observe, record, and never interfere."  In a small town?  Yeah, right!  A new breed of Watcher is slowly learning to deal with the realities of the field, and the ideals of the bureaucrats.

The 'Masters at Deception' Arc by Amand-r

For another take on the Watchers, and a nicely sinister plotline.  Besides, if you haven't read everything Amand-r has written, now's your chance.  Rated at Amand-r's site.

Life In Wartime by Lori Wright

Rated PG-13 for violence.  A different view, all right -- a Watcher's decline into madness.

The Watcher Report by Dawn Cunningham

An alternate ending to "The Darkness", not rated.

Last Tango at Joe's by Vi Moreau

Rated PG-13.  Elena Duran and Connor MacLeod under the Watchful eye of Joe Dawson.

Whatever You Say by Alice in Stonyland

Rated PG-13. Amy knows the truth about Methos... and she wants to know why her father lied to her.

jump in the river by Dana Woods

Rated PG-13. Joe Dawson has made some harsh choices while Watching Duncan MacLeod, and one of them has come back to haunt him.

Lightning by Rhiannon Shaw

Rated PG-13 for language, maybe.  Gen fic, honest.  Joe found something he didn't expect on a blues demo tape -- insight into Methos.

Joe's Journal, 4/28/96 by Rhiannon Shaw

Rated PG-13 for implied m/m UST.  Sometimes your friends see things more clearly than you do.

Brave the Smoke by Shauna O

Rated NC-17 for m/m.  Joe, Amy, Duncan, Methos, and more technology than any Watcher should really be allowed to play with....

Whirlwind of Rebellion by Farquarson

Rated PG-13. Read this one, folks.  It made me nervous.  It deals with James Horton's history, with the Watchers' early handling of problems, and with minds.  It's very good.

--Handled with a Chain by Rhiannon Shaw

Rated NC-17 for squick.  There's something about the Lyric Wheel challenges that makes me think like a Watcher, I guess.  This is not my usual, and it's not for the squeamish; it was, however, perfect for Halloween.

Proof by Kai

Definitely NC-17 and slash.  Proof that some things do fall under a Watcher's category of 'I didn't need to know this!'

Quickenings by Janeen Grohsmeyer

Unrated.  A Watcher scientific report on the nature of quickenings.  Have fun, folks!

To Observe and Record by Lady Moonhawke

Rated PG-13.  What happens when the Watcher and the immortal are a little too well-matched?  What secrets do you keep, which do you give up?  And where do oaths come in?

That's all so far.  Do you have one to add?  Know a story that goes here?  Please, let me know!
